Dealing with huge files
one of the sites on my server (dual xeon 3.0 ht, 2Gb ram, freeBSD) is using about 10 Gbs of space, in small files. They are about 200k or 300k small files, but I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with them.
First, since my HD is getting full, I deleted about 50k of those files, but then the trouble started.
I think it was too much for the server to handle, so the whole thing crashed and there seemed to be a bad filesystem problem, and only after about 4 hours the support staff could fix with it.
After that, I enabled cPanel's backup to backup all files daily, but it's not working for that specific site, it created the backup file, but it's corrupted (0 bytes file).
So, I have 2 questions:
1- How should I go about deleting those files? I don't want that same problem to happen again, but I still have to delete a lot of them.
(last time I used the command rm -rf [folder])
2- Why is cPanel backup not working for this site?
