Setting up my own shared SSL on Hostgator

Hi,

I have a reseller account at host gator, but I am not a reseller. I use my space for my own sites. I build ecommerce sites and I have several of them.

I recently signed up with host gator because they seem to be what I was looking for. Also, I wanted reseller hosting with shared SSL so I could save some money on SSL certs. It's not cost effective to get an SSL cert for every single store I have anymore, especially for the new startups. Even though they are fairly cheap, I have many sites and it adds up.

Unfortunately, what I didn't realize until recently is that Hostgator's shared SSL isn't very practical because they issue their own certs for the shared SSL so your visitor ends up getting the security alert popup since the cert is not recognized. This is a no-no and for all intents and purposses, it is useless shared SSL as most people need to NOT have that popup appear for their visitors. It makes no sense to even offer shared SSL like this since anyone can acheive the same thing with a better looking URL. But I digress...

So what I want to do is set up my own shared SSL. Sure, I still have to buy a cert, but it's still cheaper in the longrun since i will not need to get a wildcard cert.

I understand that I would be able to set up shared SSL on my IP so that each of my sites utilizing the shared SSL would have to use...

https://IPaddress/~siteusername

That's OK if I absolutely HAVE to do it, but I was hoping to set it up so each site could use the URL...

https://main-account-domain.com/~siteusername

or even

https://secure.main-account-domain.com/~siteusername

which look much better to the customer than the IP method.

I asked HG and the response I got was insufficient as it was too short and hurried and did not address most of the issues/questions. So I replied for more info and have yet to hear from them. It took only a couple hours to get the firs tresponse but it is taking considerably longer for their reply to my reply.

So I'm here asking if any of you know if in fact I can set up my own shared SSL as https://main-account-domain.com/~siteusername
instead of https://IPaddress/~siteusername ?

For those that do not know, HG reseller accounts are cpanel/WHM.

Thanks in advance.
