Problems with installing FreeBSD
Im trying to install FreeBSD version 5.3 on my new machine. Its a celeron 2.2 ghz with an asus P4VP-MX, a 3ware 7006-2 raid controller with 2x Western Digital Cavia SE WD800JB.When i put in the boot disc of FreeBSD, it starts to boot and it hangs after this:
acpi_cpu throttling enabled, 16 steps (100% to 6.2%) , currently 100.0%
ata1-master: FALURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY timed out
ata1-master: FALURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY timed out
ata1-master: FALURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY timed out
twed0: <Unit 0, TwinStor, Normal> on twe0
twed0: 76318MB (156299440 sectors)
I have no idea what to do... i searched on google for it but couldnt really find anything usefull. It just stops there... i waited for about an hour but nothing happens.
When i boot in safe-mode, i get a panic error 9... same when i boot without acpi.
I've been trying different bios settings but without luck. The 3ware bios does recognize both disks and i have created the raid-1 array succesfully (a few times).
I also tried taking out the controller and putting it in an other pci slot. I also took out the controller and put 1 disk at the mainboard, then it didnt hang and all loaded successfully, so the problem seem to be the 3ware controller.
Anyone has an idea on how i can fix this? Since i get this error on such an early stage (even before the install begins), i dont know what i can do since there is not much else to do... (settings wise)
I also tried with freebsd 5.4 but i get the exact same problem with that version... any help would be appreciated since im completely lost ! Thanks a lot
