server crashing daily

hi

i've been having a problem with my server crashing on a daily basis, just about the same time every night. it doesn't actually come offline, but the server load gets so high that it is almost completely inaccessible.

if i manage to login to see what processes are running, it's usually python running yum or a perl installer process. mysql also is usually using a lot of memory, but the server usually works fine even when mysql is using 200+mb.

it normally doesn't last longer than 30 minutes, but it happens every night and there's nothing i can do about it, and i can't figure out what's causing it.

it seems it might be related to yum and/or cpupdate running, but i don't see any of either of those in any cronjobs in /etc/cron* or /var/spool/cron .

does anyone have any idea what i can do about this? i'm running out of ideas and it's starting to become a serious issue.

i have a CPanel CentOS 3.5 box, 2.6.10 kernel.

i really need help! thanks.
