Firewall Bottleneck Grievance- connection tracking limit?

I recently had an issue with delayed response rates and randomly not being able to ping my server. So, after months of this annoyance, I email the support and they look into it and make an adjustment to the "connection tracking limit" on the firewall. They were kind of like "oh, this setting was set too low" --- huh, what! That burns me because it's been like that for months as far as I know. It's a reputable company, and they should know how to set these things up properly for commercial sites. This is the first time I really pressed them to look into it after some back and forth. I'm tired of catching these hosting people with their pants down. It does cost me money when surfers can't access my sites. Now things run a bit more smoothly. Anyone know what the "connection tracking limit" is? I am on a dedicated win 2k3 server.

Are there any other settings I should ask support to adjust to ensure everyone coming to my sites will get served a page in a timely manner?
