Need guidance with configuring Apache for secure WAN use

Good evening,

Cheers for reading, - bear with me....

I've been trying to configure Apache to run on my system as a secure web server for WAN use. However, I soon realised I could get the server working but I don't have a clue about the security issues or how to overcome them.

I really would like to get Apache up and running with some form of peace of mind and would really appreciate a helping hand.

Obviously, I don't expect anyone to hold my hand as I go through each directive in the configuration file but would love to find a tuturial about how to securely configure Apache on a Windows system for secure WAN use. I should emphasize that when I say "securely" i'm not talking about SSL security - just secure enough to protect my machine from malicious users.

I have searched the web using a variety of search engines and it isn't often that I don't fine what I am looking for - but -in this case, I didn't.

As you guys are webhosts, I would like to call on you fellow WHT'ers and ask for any much needed advice, tips or guidance, url's to relevant tutorials etc.

Furthmore, please don't start accusing me of trying to be a kiddie host because I can see that coming. I have no plans to set the server up for the use, and if I ever did - I would be fully capable as I have run a web hosting organisation before.

On a lighter note -

Any help is appreciated, really, even the smallest bit of help.

Regards,

- Jord
