Can I change my domain name server on my own ?

My apology if this is a wrong forum to post this.

Can I change my domain name server on my own ?

Something like if my domain name is xpindia.com
can i get a personalised name server eg ns1.personal.com for it ?
and from where. Or does my domain registrar does this
for me.

And if I dont know who my registrar is, for eg if I got a domain registered with a company who has just the franchize and is not the actual registrar ...
