what sort of raid/LVM setup does everyone use?

I finally got permission to buy a serious linux server to replace a dying P3 box I brought in from home a couple of years ago. The old box was just a pair of large IDE drives and 2gig of PC100.

The new server is an IBM dual 2.8 with a serveRaid 7k card. I have purchased 4 SCSI 10k 73gig drives to use on it. This is my first box with RAID and I'm also thinking I should try out using LVM on it so I can do things like snapshots and adjust partition sizes once the system gets running.

What type of setup does everyone else use on their main server systems? Do you use LVM, software raid, hardware raid? What type of raid setup do you use? multiple raid 1, 5, 0+1? What do you find to be the benefits/detriments to running what you do?

My first thought was to do a RAID 5 with 3 of the drives and a single hot-spare. It should give me a single 146gb “drive” that I would split up using LVM storage groups.

Other things I'm thinking is to install a IDE controller and a spare IDE 120gb drive for storing LVM snapshots and such.
