Better than FTP for me and for end users? SFTP vs other options?
I'm trying to prevent problems with security on my new dedicated server.I plan to have SOME programs communicate by leaving files in "FTP directories" at times plus I expect to need to allow users (employees of my customers mostly) to grab and deposit other files so I was planning to run FTP on my new dedicated server. What are more secure alternatives and what do you suggest is practical for my windows users to get to?
Im running RedHat Linux on the servers and I want to avoid spending extra money, doing anything that is confusing to administer or difficult for a windows user to get access to.
Should I be using scp to move from windows to remote Linux machine? What versions?
Why would I use this rather than (or in addition to) SFTP?
I really do not want to get lots of support calls asking me how to get access these files. Low training load is important so I want this all to feel familiar to people.
I'm interested in the exact versions that people would recommend, both on the Linux side and on the Windows side.
Should I be going with RedHat Enterprise 3 or 4? Why?
