Linux Server Load Very High (stats/server overload)
We have a Linux Server with the following:2 CPUs
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz,
speed: 3391.641 MHz
cache size: 1024 KB
Memory: 1012316k
WHM/Cpanel
We've got around 150+ accounts on the server (not adding any more accounts) and since past few days server load has maxed out (very high) and averaging around 3.5 up to even 5.0.
We are constantly getting this statscheck report:
"While processing the log files for user 'abc', the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is 13:53:14 up 42 days, 22:02, 0 users, load average: 4.65, 4.73, 4.42"
We have checked few main things, and there are couple of accounts using streaming scripts and driving enormous amount of traffic.
We asked them to stop using the offending script, which they have but server load is still not dropping back to normal.
Any ideas?
What other possible reasons could cause the server load to jump so high?
What other things we can do to bring down?
Thanks in advance.
