Avoiding canonical URLs
There's a lot of discussion at the moment about a possible problem with canonical URLs causing sites to be penalized by Google for duplicate content and dropped from the index because http://domain and http://www.domain both deliver the same pages. Is there any reason for allowing "domain" to resolve to the web server address?
My sites are hosted on a reseller account with cPanel and WHM. In the WHM DNS panel I see that domain has an A record with the server address, and then mail and www have CNAME records that point to domain. Is it possible to change this so that http://domain doesn't resolve to anything, without screwing something up?
Or is there another way to avoid the canonical URL problem?
