What is needed for a mail server?
I'm a new member of WHT, but I've no doubt you'll see me on here more, asking what I guess are pretty simple questions to some of you guys.
Anyway, I hope you can help me with this little question I have bugging me:
If I were to build a physical server, probably quite a basic one with no 'bells and whistles', what would I have to do to make it into a full mail server?
I guess I'm on about the software side of things here really, unless a dedicated mail server needs a different physical set-up than say a server solely designed to run Apache. I'll be running a Linux based network, so whether that makes Windows based software unusable or not, I don't know.
The physical server will have one dedicated IP address assigned to it.
Would it be possible to have the facility for incoming and outgoing mail on the same physical server?
