MySQL LOCK TABLES

One of the Content Mangement Systems that I have come to like is Drupal. Unfortunately, Drupal requires MySQL priviledges to "LOCK TABLES", which my reseller doesn't provide. My understanding is that some hosting companies do provide this priviledge, but not all. The LOCK TABLES priviledge is not granted by default with MySQL. What I'm not sure is if hosting companies do not understand that granting LOCK TABLES poses no security risk or performance costs...or there are some actual risks here by granting the priviledge.

Does anyone know the cons to granting LOCK TABLES from the perspective of the hosting company?
