qmail logs are empty

i finally got qmail working, well as far as i can tell. But one thing i'm know is not working is the logging. For some reason none of the logs are logging anything. Each user can send/receive just fine but from the looks of it the logs are empty.

Now before i got the email rolling the logs were working. I would see in the logs my email, who i'm sending it to, and if it was successful.
/var/log/qmail/qmail-smtpd/current
/var/log/clamav/freshclam.log
/var/log/maillog
/var/log/qmail/qmail-pop3d/current
/var/log/qmail/qmail-send/current
/var/spool/qmailscan/qms-events.log
/var/spool/qmailscan/qmail-queue.log
/var/log/clamav/clamd.log

every single one of these log files are empty. I've just checked /var/log/syslog for qmail entries and i see my test emails in there with the info described above.

Where do i control this? I'm guessing syslog is logging all the info but i would like it if things where log'd to the correct .log file.

Lastly there is another issue i've just become aware of. Receiving email for the clients is fast, well just like every other pop3 service. But sending is really slow. For some reason it might take 25-30seconds will the mail client says sending mail (No attachments or anything) and it will send. Any idea what might be causing this?
