DNS Help/Advice Needed

Hi,

I am trying to get my head round dns, we have 5 servers currently, and are planning on getting more soon. Our current DNS is a bit of a mess with each server having its own dns server, and its own Nameservers. This obvously isnt a good way to do it as we have no backup nameservers.
We are doing some large changes and are moving most of our system to VHCS soon, the problem I cant work out is DNS.
VHCS does the dns, mail, ftp, web, db's ... all locally on the server its installed on. We are building a front end to VHCS that allows our clients to use 1 login and it will "redrect" them to their correct panel. As the DNS is locally on one server it means that parts of domains can be on one server, and parts on another, it also means that we have 5+ dns servers rather than the 1 main one + secondary for it.

Is there any way to do this properly (we run both windows (iis) and linux (bind))?

I have one idea on how to do it, but it doesnt seem like the "propper" way of doing it - there must be 1000's of hosts out there who have 1 set of nameservers and multiple hosting servers, so how do most people do it ?

We ideally need to combine our 5+ dns servers to become 1 set.

Any help on this would be most appriciated,

Tom
