Anyone else have trouble with VisNetic Firewall?
I'm in the process of shopping around for a software firewall for a Windows 2003 Server we're deploying in the next two weeks and one of the many packages I've tested was Deerfield.com's VisNetic firewall. What I've been doing is running each firewall through its paces locally before deploying it live on my server and this was the one that impressed me the most when it came to features vs. price.Anyway, since deploying it on my server yesterday my Windows 2003 box has gone down at least nine times. In fact it's down again right now while I wait for my sixth reboot today. In most cases my settings were created directly using the wizard with the configuration of a web/ftp/mail server. Just about everything else is blocked or filtered except for RDP. Training is on but rarely encounters anything and portscan detection is on with moderate settings.
I've uninstalled the firewall completely at least twice, being as careful as I could to remove all traces of it but it just doesn't seem to matter. If the firewall is set to filter traffic it eventually goes down and takes the whole server with it. When the server comes back it goes down again as soon as the firewall admin panel is called up or until it starts filtering traffic again.
Anyone else have problems with this firewall? I'd be more than happy with it if it actually worked. At this point I'm not sure what else to do. I've tried kerio (waaaay too expensive), InJoy, McAfee's Windows 2003 solution and even ZAP (I know, I know a desktop solution). None were quite as nice as this one for the price.
