Dumb nameserver question
I have a dedicated box at oneandone. Problem #1 right?I'm running some variant of redhat. Problem #2.
Somehow the network configs got wiped on a restart. Lost the IP, Gateway, netmask and nameserver.
Oneandone's support can't get me what nameserver I should use. Took 'em about 6 hours to get me what the gateway and netmask should be. Yeah, I've written them down since then.
I figured I should use the one i got when doing a whois on oneandone.com, but it doesn't work right.
interestingly when I use lynx to check if it's working, things internal like oneandone.com work but external sites like gmail.com don't. Also interesting, my sites still come up fine to the rest of the world so the box's DNS server is still working.
I figure I don't need to explain why this is important here like i need to when I get indonesian tech support from oneandone. (outgoing mail doesn't go out as a result and my plesk is telling me it's going to expire)
Thinking outloud, I think i'm going to replace localhost in the resolve.conf with the actual IP of the server.
So, uh, what should I do for a nameserver?
Thanks guys.
