New server, need your opinions
I'm not a hoster, i'm just building a server for my forum and oscommerce shop.
The forum is a vbulletin forum with a SEO module, approx 300 online users whole day long, 25.000+ members.
Motherboard: Tyan thunder K8SD pro http://www.tyan.com/products/html/th...dpro_spec.html
CPU: AMD opteron 265

14 X 14.7GB 15k scsi U160
12 drives for the data in raid 5.
2 drives for the OS in raid 1.
The problems:
I'm not sure if i should use the onboard scsi controller Adaptec AIC-7902W
on the tyan thunder k8sd pro, and add a ZCR card, adaptec 2010S RAID which supports raid 0,1,5,10.
OR
Don't use the onboard scsi controller, and buy a LSI MR320-1 card which supports raid 0,1,5,10.
The adaptec 2010S RAID ZCR card costs something like 220 euro, and the LSI MR320-1 card around 460 euro.
The onboard controller has two U320 channels, and the LSI card has one U320 channel.
Are the onboard scsi controllers really that bad as they say?
newbie question: As i already mentioned, i'm going to use two types of raid, raid 5 and raid 1. Can i combine these two on one channel? Or do i really need two channels?
