SpiNNcloud to deliver brain-inspired supercomputer to Leipzig for drug discovery research

German firm SpiNNcloud will deploy its largest neuromorphic supercomputer to Leipzig University, featuring over 656,000 cores and simulating 10.5 billion neurons. Powered by 4,320 SpiNNaker2 chips, the system will support AI-driven drug discovery, offering energy efficiency and high-speed protein folding simulations. This brain-inspired machine reflects growing interest in alternatives to GPU-heavy computing for personalized medicine, marking a milestone in Europe’s neuromorphic research infrastructure.
