Hosting.fr moves to absorb Netim as hosting market consolidation accelerates

The European hosting sector has entered another round of consolidation, with Hosting.fr confirming that it will take over French registrar Netim.com. The deal, tied to parent company hosting.de, highlights how scale is quickly becoming the deciding factor in who thrives and who fades in the domain business.

For Netim customers, the shift will be noticeable but carefully staged. Starting July 22, 2025, services will gradually migrate to Hosting.fr’s platform. The company says it will mostly automate the process, but it will still send customers clear email notices before changes occur.

By the end of July, existing balances will carry over, and from August 1 a new billing setup will apply. Clients can either prepay for services or pay invoices afterward, depending on preference. The company will manage automatic renewals throughout, so users will keep their domains protected during the transition unless they opt out.

What makes the deal more than a simple transfer of accounts is the technical weight Netim brings with it. This registrar’s reputation really hinges on its robust global Anycast DNS infrastructure, ICANN accreditation, and DNSSEC implementation. These features aren’t just for show—together, they’ve established the company as a reliable pick for international users who actually care about security and uptime. For Hosting.fr, absorbing that infrastructure is both a competitive gain and a signal to rivals that it is serious about growing its footprint.

The wider picture is one of consolidation. Large players are stitching together multi-brand portfolios to boost efficiency and lower costs. Larger competitors force smaller providers to make difficult choices: merge, specialize, or risk being squeezed out. In France, Hosting.fr now positions itself as a stronger contender, and for competitors, this acquisition is another reminder that the pace of change in hosting is only accelerating.
