Microsoft tests app-only cloud PCs as rivals push new virtual desktop tech

Microsoft has launched a public preview of Windows 365 Cloud Apps, letting users stream individual apps like Outlook or Word without loading a full virtual desktop. The move trims overhead for organizations running shared Cloud PCs. The announcement lands as AWS debuts M4-powered cloud Macs and Omnissa expands beyond VMware with new endpoint tools, underscoring how competition in cloud desktops and app streaming is intensifying.
