noatime

IMO it's pretty useless (at least i never needed) to know when a file was last accessed (read)

i just found out that it's possible to mount partitions using "noatime" (or even to set +A to specific files)

has anyone already tried set that to see if performance will improve?

also, i know it works for ext2, but not sure for ext3...
