Sudden Packet loss
Hi,I live in the southern ontario area, and back in 1999 I ordered cogeco cable internet, (they just had gotten cable modems).
AT first they went through @home, so my hostname was *.on.home.com, it ws fine, wee used the samsung modems, I had the service up until May 1st, 2001, pretty long time. Half way through oct 1999 - may 1st my hostname had changed to *.cgocable.net. They no longer used @home
ON may 1st, i moved to a new house, once i moved, may 14th the isp came down here and setup my cable again, and it was fine the first couple days, then i experienced this really big problem, which caused a technician to come down to my house on the 14th of june from the isp and take a look at it, i'm not going to get into what th eproblem was, long story, but he said the lines were fine, and it was my computer. i was surprised, the only thing we coudl think of was switching the ethernet card, so we did, voilla! the problem was fixed, from june 14th to june 18th, everything was fine. Then mysteriously one day i started to experience some sort of packet loss, I didn't know it right away though. I'd be in my dedicated server, installign something, and as i would type commands, they wouldnt show up on my screen, 5 secs later they would, it was my connection pausing. Since the 18th, every 10-30 seconds, my connection PAUSES, for a time of 5 seconds, sometimes 10, sometimes 3. I don't know why, BUT THE PAUSE is not enough for my cable light to drop on my modem, and re-sync back up.
I can tell ihave been disconnected, because my irc disconects, and my shelll does. It's extremely irritating, i called up my ISP, they did some "diagnostics" and said i was experiencing alot of packet loss, (they made me ping an internal network ip, and i was getting packet loss to that too!!)
They said they would move my problem up to the "Advanced level tech team or somethin"
and they woudl call me within a few days, i'm still waiting, does anyone know why i would out of the blue get packet loss? ive even switched ethernet cards, same prob, i'm not getting PACKETED, cus i swithced ips.
