Question about bandwidth

Well, I suppose when topics get old, they are forgotten...
So I copy and paste my question from an older topic...Thanks for any help.

I have a relative question as I am seriously thinking of creating a web host service as a thesis project in a e-commerce course.

When we refer to bandwidth, I have the idea that it is the maximum data the line can handle in one specific instant second. Have I got it right? So, we can only have a theoretical approach to what the monthly transfer would be. And again the idea I have is that we can say that maximum transfer for this line is that data and that assumes that server uses all avaiolable bandwidth in every single second.

So, if I got both right, could I have some ideas of how much real traffic in GB, under normal conditions, a line of 512,1024,...etc mbits could handle per day or per month.

By the way, when a host says that has a connection of 155Mbits, should I usually expect it to be a leased line?
