Hardcoding and PIN Coding ?

I got this off of iBill.com's website, and was looking for a more detailed description of each. Their descriptions don't say how they work exactly, and that's what I need to know. Thanks.

Hardcoding:
iBill Hardcoding is the least complicated proof of purchase for Web purchases. Hardcoding is appropriate for those types of sales that produce the product right at the time of the sale. For example, those clients who are selling picks of the day, horoscopes, mailing lists or downloads would be the prime candidates for hardcoding.

PIN Coding:
PIN Coding is intended for the more advanced Web merchant who already has an existing program such as CGI, Cold Fusion, or ASP currently running on their Website and just needs an instant payment verification method. This option attaches a unique pincode to each transaction that is passed back to your
Website for validation against a list of PIN Codes that is provided by iBill. This is a great application for those clients selling subscriptions, newsletters, e-zines, voice mail, and Web hosting packages.
