DNS and MX record change.

I have a strange request from a customer. They registered their domain at GoDaddy. They then signed up for a hosting account with us. Now, it appears as if they running their own DNS servers (they listed their two nameservers in their request). They also have an MX record pointing to their own mail server.

They say “to avoid conflict between our DNS and their DNS” they want us to delete <their.domainname.com> NS record from our DNS. I guess they only want their www.their.domainname.com using our DNS. They further say “If you don't want to remove the NS record, please change the MX record for this domain to my mail server here”.

I am not sure why they want this, or if we could make the changes they requested. Is this something that we should be looking into, or is this something they have to do at GoDaddy? Any help would be appreciated…
