Odd test
I always wondered how the various credit card processors stacked up in terms of fraud. This morning, thanks to a persistent idiot, I got to see.We are moving off of 2checkout (not for fraud issues but others) and have just had our authorize.net/wells fargo setup going for a few days. We still had the 2checkout method available just in case there was any problems with the new system (there is not and it works great, big thumbs up for authorize.net).
This morning some idiot from Egypt tried to purchase a service from us using 2checkout. At 10:06 the order went thru. At 11:53 the order was cancelled by 2checkout for fraud. Since our old 2checkout system did not automatically create the service they purchased nothing was lost.
At 10:11 this morning, the same person, using the same info tried to process their order thru authorize.net (guess they saw they could get instant gratification thru this method.) It was instantly refused by authorize.net. Stopping any issue of fraud and stolen services in their tracks.
I believe 2checkout caught it because they called the phone number listed on the order (a lutheran church), I spoke with the man at 12noon and he said he had spoken with someone at 2checkout just a few minutes before, so it seems (this is just a guess, i am making no claims of knowing their inner workings) the order at 2checkout raised a yellow flag that caused them to manually review the record, whereas authorize.net red flagged the order instantly and did not need the manual review.
Of course, it could be someone called the card in stolen in the few minutes between orders or the first order raised an issue and the second confirmed it - or they ordered stuff in the meantime etc. but I thought it was interesting to get such a comparison of the two companies in pretty close to the exact same situation.
