How do you edit httpd.conf

Sorry that the way ill put this,

i need to add a new directory to my apache server, (PHPDEV is what im useing), GOOD Bundel..

I look at the httpd.conf and i get lost fast..

pls dont quote me in the way tha it makees me sound like a dumbass..

I still have that IP problem what should i do..
