Network cable problem

Hi,

I have some network cable problems. One cable just out of the box performs great. Then i make a straight-thru cable with less lenght and it only gives me problems. When i connect the switch and the network card it says 100 mbit. But it performs lousy. If i set the connection to 10 mbit FD manually the cable works great. But manual 10 mbit FD/HD or auto-negotiate doesn;t work.

Also a strange thing that normal ping packages go trough well(without loss) but if i ping with packages of 1000 bytes they all time-out.

I tried to change the connectors, thought i messed up there, but it still doesn't work.

Another strange thing is that my laptop(with a integrated realtek card) is having these problems, but a server with a nice intel card works fine again. Another computer is having problems again,(tried with a 3com and realtek card)

Any ideas what might cause this??
I tried to update drivers for my laptop etc.

Thanks
