Debian 3.0r0 Firewall help needed.

Hi!, I'm new to linux and debian. I need help badly getting my Webserver going. I need to know how to secure it ( IPtables or other firewall )

I heard people said GUI is not good, so I don't want to use GUI.
Here is some of the Basic System setting that I have done already.

1. Bare Debian Installation.
2. Installed Apache 1.3? ( working )
3. Installed Wu-ftpd ( working )
4. Installed PHP4 ( working )
5. Installed MySQL ( I think it's working, just need to learn how to use it )
6. Installed SSH ( Working )
7. Installed Sendmail ( Mostly not working yet )

My Question is can someone please describe step by step how to secure my system? and configure Firewall, I can't seem able to get IPtables working.

Here is the Port I think I need to Open. I want to close all other unused port ( please correct me if i'm wrong )
80, 21, 22, 25, 110, 443, 3306
