Windows - what to do list for all!
I would like to be able for my self and others get a list of what you need to do to setup a windows 2000 server (or 2003), monitor the server, maintain the server, while keeping it as secure as secure can be on a windows server.
I am new to all this my self and would like to learn it, well ok have a good bash at windows server
.Sort of things to be in a list - here is an example:
Of course it would be better to be in order of which it should be done and in most detail as possible: I am sure rackmy should be able to help as they are a windows based company :-) although as I see they use hardware firewalls - some people cannot afford these so I thought this would help me as well as them out a lot:
(I will also be making a site with this list on - and anyone that contributes will have free advitising - though may not be worth much as well as a thankyou note on the site and or a dedicated page to them)
Ok something like the following:
[+] Install Apache Server
-Edit config files
-Setup log configurations
-Learn to manage Apache - learning how to fix it quickly
-Learn to monitor and maintain Apache - including reading logs files
[+] Install PHP on Apache
-Edit config files
[+] Lock down server
-Then information here on what to do on how to lock down server
Well that was an example of course there is a lot more things inside that:
Sort of things I would expect to see information/how t sort things out in the very long list:
-Apache
-PHP
-MySQl
-ASP
-Firewall
-Locking down server
-Mail server
-FTP server
-Monitoring server
Then could even have
-MSSQL
-Stuff like that
If you feel you have a spare 20 minutes in which to write a nice detailed list I as well as others would be greatful.
