Redhat linux security issues...

I've heard that Redhats RPM update feature up2date is easy to use for keeping software current, but it doesn't always fully upgrade to the actual latest versions of software.

For eg. a fully up2date Redhat Linux 7.2 box has these program versions installed.

Apache/1.3.27 (1.3.28 available )
mod_ssl/2.8.12 ( 2.8.15-1.3.28 available )
OpenSSL/0.9.6b ( 0.9.7b available )
PHP/4.1.2 ( 4.3.2 available )
mod_perl/1.26

According to these versions there are a number of important bug fixes and security fixes between the versions I have and the current versions out there.

Would I have to compile each program and install from source? I assume that waiting for the RPMs just isn't the viable thing to do if a hacker was knocking at my door.
