Theplanet / windows / network problem - plz help if you can . . .

Hi,

I have three servers with theplanet / servermatrix two of which are windows 2000 and one windows 2003. One of the 2000 servers has livestats installed and connects to the other two servers (which are web servers) via a share and downloads the logs for the stats.

Out of the blue tonight livestats can no longer connect to the windows 2003 server. This server is also used for secondary DNS and I could previously manage DNS on both machines from either one but that's now broken too and the primary DNS can't connect to the secondary and visa versa.

A bit of background . . . . .

The two Windows 2000 servers were installed together and I paid for a 8 port hub/switch so that I could have my own private 'lan' - when the windows 2003 server was added I asked that this be put on the hub / switch too but I'm not convinced it's ever been set up properly.

A tracert from one of the 2000 servers to the other is 1 hop, as you'd expect if they're plugged in the same switch, however from either of these to the windows 2003 machine is 2 hops (!) which has never made any sense to me.

Also all three machines are set to be on the same workgroup but again only the two windows 2000 machines show up in the workgroup, if I look on the Windows 2003 machine I can see a workgroup with the same name but the windows 2003 machine is the only one in it. Surely if they're all plugged into the same switch they should all be in the same workgroup.

For all the world it looks as though the windows 2003 machine is on a completely different network to the windows 2000 ones but theplanet support insist they're all plugged in the same switch !

Worth noting that the windows 2000 servers main IP's start 64.5.*.* the windows 2003 is 69.41.*.*

Can anyone help ? 2003 customers are bound to start phoning tomorrow when they find out their stats aren't updating . . . .

I've submitted a ticket to supprt and got the same basic 'shrug' answer I always get when asking about this. They also say they've changed nothing on the network but I changed nothing so something has happened.
