A Home server issue...
I am learning about servers. For a while I have been reading about setting up a home server and fel i got good directions.. but of course, I am running into a basic issue... seeing the site on the internet.I read http://dslwebserver.com ... lots of help and VERY informative. I was able to find and use many sources from here and branching off.
Here's my setup:
DSL 384/128 i believe is the speed
Dynamic IP... I am using http://zoneedit.com
Apache 2.0 server software
Windows XP Pro SP1a (firewall enabled). All windows updates...
Norton Personal Firewall 2003 (yes, 2 firewalls)
Norton AntiVirus 2003
I tried IIS but found Apache easier to configure.
I have Apache set for port 8888 (for example http://127.0.0.1:8888). Yeah, I know the default is 80. Zone Edit has a forward feature for people that have a dynamic IP.
I can see the web site on my home network and the server itself by calling up the domain name. Any other computer from the "world" gets a "page cannot be displayed" or "action cancelled, cannot find server" error message.
I am assuming that something is blocking access to my system. I turned off both firewalls to test but got the same results.
Any ideas from you brainiacs?
Thanks in advance
