Redhat versus FreeBSD - Opinions?

Well, I guess I'm looking for opinions. See, I'm getting a whole new batch of servers and I have to choose: All RedHat Linux (or Enterprise Linux), all FreeBSD, or a mix of the two?

Now, I've been hearing a lot about FreeBSD, and I will be willing to admit that I have been stuck on RedHat my entire time working with servers. However, the time has come to possibly move up a level and get more secure and more stable servers.

Now, I use H-Sphere as my primary control panel, and H-Sphere uses java quite extensively. I've heard that FreeBSD does not perform java tasks as well as RedHat would, itself.

I need to hear from people who have used both RHL/EL and FreeBSD regarding performance overall and especially the performance of java on both.
