Red Hat/MRTG/SNMP/3Com SSII 3300
Hi,First of all, I searched on this topic and found several threads, but they didn't help me enough to get this working. So I 'dare' to post a new one.
My config is like this:
Red Hat 9 with net-snmp
3Com SSII switch.
The switch has several vlan's and vlan1 isn't reachable (already taken in the noc). So for the moment, I can't get to my switch over the IP and snmp won't work yet (I think). My question is for the situation these vlan's have been removed and all ports are in the default vlan and all traffic is untagged. I'll just have to give some ns's a new IP

So, I rpm-ed the net-snmp but get stuck on the config. How do I get about that? I've read serveral guidelines, but none of them contain a step-to-step on this. I'll only use snmp for this monitoring.
Secondly, I get stuck on the way to define the switch ports to be monitored. How do I set the 'measuring' of each switchport? I believe the community string is for the access of the unit as a whole, but how do I separate measuring each port? The 3Com manual only names commands, without expaining what they do. Is it about defining an object identifier, perhaps 'gauge'?
I hope you can get me started on this, since Í cannot test this right now and I want to get this working as soon as my IP address can be reached.
Thanks.
