Advice on running server
I setup a RH Linux 8.0 server running the Smart hosting Tools Controller which includes Apache, QMail, ProFTPD, etc.
I have been working with this machine for several months now and I am fairly familiar with how Linux works and troubleshooting. I has been running fine for the past two months with now downtime on a T1 line.
Here are my questions:
1. I am afraid that something may "break" and cause something like Apache to stop running or just something that shouldn't happen that I wouldn't be able to fix. If this every happened, I would not know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about solving this problem? I do have some basic troubleshooting skills, but you never know what can happen.
2. Security: I have ran several security scans from abuse.org and securitymetrics.com. The server passed. My biggest concern is spammers. Open relay is closed and is limited to the domains that are hosted, is there anything else major I should worry about? Does anyone know if I would be able to have someone who knows security review it?
The server is being used at the moment to host non-profit websites free but I am possibly looking to expand to others: so far it has been very good.
