BSD Firewalls Usage

Let’s say I wanted to experiment with building a OpenBSD or FreeBSD, or even a Linux Firewall and decided to actually implement it in a live server environment.

Obviously some good reasons for doing this is cost. You can build a powerful BSD Firewall cheaply compared to that of a PIX or WatchGuard solution.

So I have that implemented, and the years go by. The company grows, and now we have many many more clients then we do now.

Does anyone here think a company could outgrow a firewall like this? I don’t mean performance or anything like that... just the fact that it’s a home-made custom contraption that we mocked up? Think customers might have a problem with the fact that we use such a firewall, perhaps simply because its not a Cisco, or a WatchGurad?

WinApp

btw. I am talking about a routing firewall, not iptables or filters right on the servers.
