What technical knowledge do you need to run a webhost?

Hello everyone.

I'll sincerely appreciate it if you folks can spare a few mins to read the post below. Really.

I am sorry if this question has been asked before.

I am a sophomore Computer Science student. We havent been taught any networking courses yet. I am 20 and I've been using computers for over 10 years. I am quite tech savvy.

Suppose I wanted to run a proper webhosting business; with my own server n stuff. What kinda of technical knowledge would I need to start such an endeavor.
I realise that over a period of time you would learn a lot from experiance. But, personally, the "trial and error" method of learning doesnt apply to webhosting. Your customers dont deserve that, am I right?

- Are there any special qualifications/diplomas/certifications that are especially helpful in running a webhosting business?

- Do I need to know programming (PHP , perl, etc) at all?

- I have no experiance in Linux, infact, I have little experiance in Windows server side. What do I need to learn ?

- Are there any good books out there that have helped you run your business better?

- Security is a major concern. How do you protect yourself from hackers, exploits, DoS etc? What knowledge do you need for that kinda stuff? Do you need to recruit a secruity professional?

- Is running a webhosting business in any way similar to maintaining a network? Say for example, does webhosting have anything similar with running your LAN cafe/School network/University network

- CCNA? CCNP? MCSE? any use?

- A bit Off Topic: Is running a Reseller hosting less demanding than traditional hosting? Also, would you suggest a "newcomer" to start off first as a Reseller?

I sincerely appreciate your feedback!

Thank you for your precious time!
