Courier-IMAP error

I have a colo'd box that runs Debian and acts as a mailserver, with Qmail and Vpopmail, both vanilla and recently through SSL. Qmail is lightly patched (SMTP authentication, and a few others... the "recommended" patches from qmailrocks.org) and Vpopmail is the current version, unpatched, with no special options when compiled.

POP3 and SMTP work fine.

I installed courier-IMAP-SSL, following the continued instructions at qmailrocks.org. It seemed to go fine. Courier is running, I can connect just fine... however, when I try to login, the connection is immediately terminated by the server. The logfile shows the following:

Jun 10 17:47:14 radar imaplogin: Connection, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]
Jun 10 17:47:27 radar imaplogin: /usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw: Exec format error

I've hunted around, trying to find anything about the "exec format error" problem, but don't really see what the problem could be. The authvchkpw script is chown'd root, like all the rest of the authentication scripts, and mode 755, just like them as well.

Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated...
