Firewall for Windows 2003 Server?

I'm trying to learn Windows 2003 Server. I got a Evaluation Copy from MS. The Norton firwall/virus scanner I was using on XP says it won't work on Servers and won't install. I downloaded AVG Virus Scan to help with virus protection and Zone Alarm free version for the firewall. However the Zone Alarm says it's not meant for Servers... even though it will install. I am using a cheap D-Link DI-604 version E router that I picked up mainly to share my cable internet connection.

I had it set up to display a web page and got my brother to type in my IP and get the page. He couldn't get it until I used the DMZ function on the router. However he said DO NOT open the server to the internet until I've read up on "locking down" the sever... aka read about W2K3 security. I visited the Windows 2003 Security site at Microsoft and it's got a TON of information. I downloaded one of the documents and it's like a 390ish page .pdf file. That should teach me a lot.

But while I'm learning I'm concerned about not having a software firewall up like Zone Alarm.

Is there another free or cheap firewall that I can use?

This may sound really dumb, but isn't there a firewall packaged with Windows 2003 Server?

Is my router stopping hack attempts and acting like a firewall? It's not a 'firewall' router.
