Tomcat Installation on Windows

First time trying out Tomcat on Windows 2000. I installed the JVM , followed by Tomcat, installation ok I put the port as 8080 , but seems unable to connect. I saw there are Tomcat connectors, do I need to install these to make Tomcat work?
