Moving Sites To Different Servers
I design a lot of sites, host them using a reseller account as well as do site updates and maintenance work which includes moving sites around to different hosts and servers.
My question:
Is there a program that will make the moving of a site easier?
I can login to a site with Putty and zip it up and all that, then upload to the new server and unzip. However, if the client has any scripts, this is usually a royal pain. Is there a program that will copy the files from a site via FTP AND keep the exact file structure AND keep the permissions intact or at least provide a way to make the permissions easier to restore? If the client has a search engine or members area script or something like that, I end up having to re-install everything and it takes forever. I now avoid trying to move sites that are the least bit complicated as it is not worth my time.
Is there anything that would make it easier?
Anything at all? Is there a secret out there that I'm missing?
