After numerous exploits were discovered, the Linux kernel team has released 2.4.28 (ChangeLog). Stefan Esser detailed numerous exploits in the 2.x smbfs, other exploits were reported earlier in the week. Read the ChangeLog for details. This should be considered a urgent security upgrade due to the number of exploits released.
