i need help setting up a server
I am currently undertaking a project to help me gain some experience while i am studying on my networking course. While i am confident i can physicaly build and configure a server to run a site from, i am still a bit unsure about about the finer points so i have a few questions.
1 Can i use a standard adsl 512kbps/1mbps to run a dedicated game server on asuming there will be between 8-16 player slots available on this facility or do i need more bandwidth.
2 If i run a web site advertising this server and have forums available for feedback from users would there be enough bandwidth to run the site on the same connection or would it be to much for the one line?
2a(if yes) Could the web site and game server be on the same pc or would i have to have them on seperate pc's running of the same line with either a sub domain or two static ip addresses?
You may wonder why i am doing this when other people can offer me this service as a cheaper option but it is purely for educational purposes and nothing else it may only run for 1-3 months as i know quite lot of people who could play on the server and teat it for me. Any help or advice on this subject would be much appreciated. Such as books, tutorials and forum links.
