How do I - DNS ??
I'm tired of asking tech support something that I should be able to do myself. I know how to do it on a local server using alias'es and the like, but not using Cpanel or WHM on a remote server. Nor do I know the "proper " way to do it.
What has happened, is that the www. and mail. prefixes quit working. I can get to the mail server by simply typing in the domain name, the same with the web server, but if I had previously configured my email or imap client to go to mail.domainname.com it doesn't work. I've had to change all references to simply domainname.com. Same with http://www.domainname.com - it no longer works. I type in http://domainname.com and I'm there.

I stare at the settings - A, MX, CNAME - but I haven't a clue. It is listing both mail and www as CNAME whereas other subdomains are listed as A - perhaps I should change them? I don't want to mess anything up. The existing subdomains both have www.subdomain and subdomain A records. I really don't need to have URLs that go http://www.subdomain.domainname.com - http://subdomain.domainname.com will work just fine. My first instinct is to change the two CNAME settings to A and to delete the A settings that are www.subdomain (leaving the plain subdomain listings) I also notice that most of the records reference the server IP that my reseller account is on, but a few list my domain name instead. Wouldn't it be more correct if they all listed the domain name, then if they move my account to another server only one record would need to be changed? Or are they all supposed to have the server IP address?

So, can someone fill me in as to what is correct? I've read a bit on DNS and naming - but that is more confusing - especially since I am not the server owner but a reseller.
