Record time to first intrusion?
The IP address had not been used before, and, if it makes any difference at all, the server is a new machine in a new rack.
The server is running Debian Sarge and, at the time, had precisley no software on it except the intrusion log. It happened before we had even had time to install the firewall

Pretty obviously the entire server security is now bolted down. I'm not going to be stupid enogh to say it is intrusion proof. But more than basic skill is needed to get in.
