where are my ports going?

and how do I find them?

OK - so I have a server at home on my home network that I am setting up. My problem starts when I try to access it from outside my router (over a cable ISP). I mean, I can access everything from within my local network, but when I try to go from the outside through my router, I have major problems.

I have my router set-up to properly forward these ports, so I know its not my router. I can access everything from other computers on my network, so I know its not my server or its fire wall or a configuration thing.

It basically has to be my ISP. So I wrote them and asked for a list of ports they block and its some tiny list of like 12 ports - none of which I had even tried yet.

So they are doing something (filtering traffic) and not telling me. How do I figure out what they are doing? Anyone know off their head what it could be? How do I go about finding a fix? Anyone have a clue here either?

I have tried a few ports like 17, 24, 40, 50, 800, 8000. Right now, I just want to HTTP through one of these ports (yes I have my server/router/firewall set up properly for these ports) – Well if I could just get a web page from inside at all I would be happy. I mean obviously, I started with port 80 and started experimenting out from there.

This is the thing – I can SSH into my network using ports 22 or 23 (SSH and Telnet ports respectively), but I can't seem to even SSH on any other ports. Well – this also tells me 1- My IP is definitely correct. 2- My router is configured and working properly. 3- My server on the other end is working just fine (I can even log into desktops and GUI).

BUT I CAN'T GET TO ITS FREAKING WEBSPACE!

Whew - ok sorry, i just needed to vent. Can anyone suggest a course of action?
