sendmail problem?

i had 25,000 "mail log too big" warning messages in my mail queue slowing my server. so after dev/nulling the mail log, i deleted the mqueue folder and created a new mqueue folder (with the same user/group and chmod settings).

now all my php based outgoing mail scripts don't send mail anymore. any idea on what the problem is, how to fix it?
