Apache woes - httpd won't start

I had no prior problems with apache until today when it started failing on it's own every 20 minutes.

I recompiled apache with 'easyapache', and now it won't start up at all. When I try to start it it says 'httpd failed please contact system admin'.

I've done 'service httpd testconfig' and it says 'syntax ok', so there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with that.

I'm at a loss as to what to do as there are no error messages to go by - any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
